| Friends Place Store Hours are Monday through Saturday 10:00 am until 4 pm WHO ARE WE? Since 1968 Friends has been an active community volunteer group. At first it was known as the Gilbert Public Library association, then Friends of the Gilbert Public Library and since 1999, Friends of the Southeast Regional Library. In 2007, we extended our support to the Perry Branch. WHAT ARE WE? We are a tax-exempt charitable organization who supports our two local libraries, promotes literacy in children and adults, and expands the presence of the libraries for the benefit of the community. We also promote and encourage volunteering. WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? The profits from Friends Place book store finance additional library services that are not part of the general library budget. The summer reading program has historically received the majority of these funds. Funding is also given to Laubach Literacy and adult ESL programs. Volunteers are always needed and training is provided. For more information, email to mesaliteracy@yahoo.com. Each year we also give up to five $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who currently reside in the Town of Gilbert. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA and a history of volunteering. HOW DO WE DO THIS? We accomplish this with an all volunteer staff who dedicate over 4800 hours each year. Donations of books and media from the surrounding communities has helped raise thousands of dollars for our libraries. Please consider becoming a Friend of the Libraries or volunteering at our store.
